Prof A.G. Jack visited Zhejiang University and gave a lecture at the College of Electrical Engineering on 10 April 2005.

Prof Jack is from School of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering, University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He is the Head of Power Electronics, Drives and Machines Research Group, and the Director of Outreach and Commercialisation. He is a worldwide-recognised leading specialist on electrical machines, especially on soft magnetic composite (SMC) and novel electric motors. Nowadays, SMC has found extensive applications in international electrical machine industries, which is mainly based on the research outcome of Prof Jack and his colleagues.

Prof Jack gave a lecture entitled Soft Magnetic Composite and Novel Permanent Magnet Machines. In the lecture, he presented the principle of SMC and its application in electrical motors, introduced the topologies, characteristics and manufacturing issues of many SMC motors which were developed by his research team. He also analysed the current and future situation of electrical machine industries in China, and presented some SMC motors which might be outstandingly suitable for the Chinese industry and market.

More than 30 staff and students from the College of Electrical Engineering, ZJU attended the lecture. After the lecture, Prof Rongxiang Zhao, Prof Yunyue Ye and Prof Zaiping Pan had a meeting with Prof Jack.
