Dr Davor Hrovat Appointed Guest Research Scientist by Zhejiang University

Dr Davor Hrovat from Ford Motor Company was appointed guest reseach scientist by Zhejiang University on Nov 22. Heads of the EE College, and Prof Song Yonghua, the vice president of Zhejiang University, attended the appointment ceremony. Prof Song met with Dr Hrovat before the ceremony to have exchanged opinions on differences existing in western and eastern education systems, and on application of control science.

Prof Song Yonghua, vice presidet of ZJU, met with Dr Hrovat before the ceremony on Nov 22.

After the ceremony, a lecture was delivered by Dr Hrovat to share with CEE students and faculties his growing experience in Ford. In addition to a detailed introduction of the history, recent situation and future trends in area of automotive control, he demonstrated the cutting-edge research achievements made by Ford.

Dr Hrovat is one of the leading automotive control systems experts in the industry and is recognized for leading research efforts on powertrain control systems. During his time at Ford, he has worked on advanced programs in drivability, advanced suspensions, transmissions, traction control and active safety.He has contributed to the development of advanced vehicle dynamics and control and is responsible for developing a component of Ford's traction control system. He is the author of more than 60 patents and nearly 100 technical papers. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (AMSE) and was the recipient of the 1996 ASME/Dynamic Systems and Control Innovative Practice Award and the 1999 AACC Control Engineering Practice Award. In 2006, he was elected fellow of National Academy of Engineering of the United States.
