From October 7th to 10th, 2018, Professor SHEN Jianxin, the vice dean of College of Electrical Engineering, Professor NIAN Heng and WANG Yunchong, together with their graduate students, went to Jeju Island, South Korea to attend the 21st ICEMS Conference.
During the conference, Professor SHEN delivered a speech entitled “High Speed Permanent Magnet AC Machines and Vehicle Applications” as the keynote speaker of the conference, introduced the latest application of high-speed permanent magnet synchronous motors, as well as the research trends of this field in the future.
Professor NIAN served as Section Chairs at the Automotive Power Electronics and EV Chargers venue, where he had detailed exchanges with students and teachers on the academic issues in that field.
The graduate students in Zhejiang University also presented wonderful oral and poster exhibitions in the conference, which were recognized by the chairman and other participants.
KONG Liang’s paper “Optimization of Current Breaker and Fault Current Limiter in DC Micro-grid Based on Faulty Transient Analysis” was awarded as the Best Paper in this conference, which won honor for the College of Electrical Engineering of Zhejiang University.
Through the ICEMS International Conference, the students have gained a lot. On the one hand, in the exchange with scholars from all over the world, students have deepened their understanding of their research field, and obtained many valuable opinions and suggestions; on the other hand, they have also exercised their ability to communicate and express themselves. It is a comprehensive academic training for every student attending the conference.
After the conference, the students, led by Prof. Nian, went to Seoul on October 11 to make an academic visit to Yonsei University. At first, Prof. NIAN introduced to the teachers and students of Yonsei University about the College of Electrical Engineering of Zhejiang University. In addition, he made a special academic lecture on the topic of impedance modeling. The lecture by Prof. NIAN aroused great interest of teachers and students of Yonsei University. They discussed and exchanged enthusiastically on specific issues in the lecture.
After the lecture, the teachers of Yonsei University led the students from Zhejiang University to visit the campus, classrooms and labs of Yonsei University, and introduced the research direction and research topics of their laboratory in detail. In addition, they showed their experimental equipments and platforms. The students in both universities have conducted in-depth exchanges on academic issues of common interests and achieved positive results.
Through this academic visit, the students have benefited a lot. Not only did they understand the basic situation of Yonsei University, visited the beautiful campus, but also deepened their understanding of the field of his research in the heated discussion. What's more, the academic visit also deepened the friendship between Zhejiang University and Yonsei University, and laid a solid foundation for further academic exchanges and cooperation in the future.
