On Dec. 14-16, 2018, the first IEEE Student Conference on Electric Machines and Systems (IEEE SCEMS 2018) was held at the Huzhou successfully. IEEE SCEMS 2018 is sponsored by the largest academic organization in the world, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). It is organized by Zhejiang University IEEE IAS Student Branch Chapter, assisted by Wuxing District People's Government, Human Resource and Security Bureau of Huzhou City and so on. The chairmen of IEEE SCEMS 2018 are SUN Yi, LIN You, students of College of Electrical Engineering, Zhejiang University and Prof. SHEN Jianxin, Deputy Dean of College of Electrical Engineering, Zhejiang University.
This IEEE SCEMS is IEEE International Conference on Electrical Engineering, initiated and organized by students for the first time in China. The main sessions of the conference include the IAS presentation, the 2019 and 2020 organizers' confirmation, the opening ceremony, keynote speech, the student paper presentation, the technical talks and the closing ceremony.
IEEE-IAS SBC representatives from different countries reported their respective work. SUN Yi, Chairman of Zhejiang University IEEE IAS Student Branch Chapter, gave a report at the IAS meeting, introducing the activities of Zhejiang University and Zhejiang University IEEE IAS Student Branch Chapter’s achievements.
The meeting established the Steering Committee and produced the systems and regulations to be followed by the following IEEE SCEMS conference. At the same time, the Steering Committee meeting confirmed that the sponsor of IEEE SCEMS 2019 is Kyungsung University of Korea, and Shandong University has obtained the qualification of IEEE SCEMS 2020.
On Dec.15, at the opening ceremony, FEI Yiwei, deputy district chief of the Wuxing District People's Government, first gave a welcome speech and expressed warm welcome to experts, scholars, teachers and students from the motor and system fields.
Dr. Tomy Sebastian, President of IEEE IAS, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. He was highly affirmed by the first student-led IEEE SCEMS that organized by Zhejiang University IEEE IAS Student Branch Chapter.
Mr. SUN Yi, Chairman of IEEE SCEMS 2018, student of College of Electrical Engineering, Zhejiang University delivered a speech. SUN sincerely hoped that the participants will be able to collide in a more splendid spark in the world of thinking in this meeting, and continue to spare no effort to open up the rift in the field of scientific research.
On behalf of Prof. SHEN Jianxin Prof. HUANG Xiaoyan from the College of Electrical Engineering, Zhejiang University delivered a speech. She thanked the Huzhou government for their strong support and hoped a huge success.
Academician PAN Jingfu of the Chinese Academy of Engineering was invited to attend the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. He also introduced the application status of the motor in the field of ships, and encouraged young scholars and students to cheer.
HE Xuerong, deputy director of the Organization Department of the CPC Huzhou Municipal Committee and executive deputy director of the Huzhou Municipal Party Committee, gave a heartfelt thanks to the staff and the participants, and wished the meeting a complete success.
At the meeting, Dr. Tomy Sebastian, Prof. Wei-Jen Lee and Prof. HUANG Xiaoyan respectively made SCEMS keynote speech, which introduced the related attempts to improve the comfort and safety of electric vehicles, the hazards of arc flashover and electrical safety related research, and railways, traction drive system related applications. His speech helps attendees touch the international frontier research work in the electrical field.
The students and teachers had a heated and creative discussion on the content of the poster. The academic predecessors gave a comprehensive and constructive analysis of the students' research fields and discussed the research hotspots in the field of motors and systems with the students.
On Dec. 16, 2018, the Closing Ceremony of the first IEEE Student Conference on Electric Machines and Systems (IEEE SCEMS 2018) was held, which meant this energetic and splendid academic sharing event drew a successful conclusion. WU Zezheng, IEEE SCEMS Co-chair, student of College of Electrical Engineering, Zhejiang University hosted the Closing Ceremony and SUN Yi, chairman of IEEE SCEMS, summarized the achievements of IEEE SCEMS 2018. The conference attracted 13 international and 60 Chinese doctoral and master's students from 10 countries including China, France, Thailand, Korea, Denmark, Hungary, Russia, Belgium, the Netherlands and Pakistan. In addition, nearly 10 academicians and well-known professors from China, the United States and Germany were invited to participate in the conference to discuss academic and industrial development. There were 53 accepted papers in this conference including 27 oral reports and 26 poster reports.
In the closing ceremony, the IEEE SCEMS and the Huzhou government jointly organized the enterprise exchange activities, aiming at providing a platform for the participants and Huzhou enterprises to promote the exchange and communication among industry, education and research.
Four best papers were selected by Technical and Publication Committee. At the closing ceremony, representatives of enterprises and IAS experts presented awards to the students who won the best paper award. Among them, HAN Ting, a master student of the College of Electrical Engineering of Zhejiang University, won the Best Paper Award.
The certification ceremony was then presided over by IAS CMD Chair Péter Pal Magyar. The ceremony was held to honor the organizer of the IEEE SCEMS 2018 meeting “Zhejiang University IEEE IAS Student Branch Chapter”. Tomy Sebastian acted as the presenting guest to present the awards to the students and teachers who organized the meeting.
Then Mr. Jong-Nam Bae, chairman of the IEEE IAS SBC from Kyungsung University, the sponsor of the IEEE SCEMS 2019, delivered a speech. Mr. Jong-Nam Bae first expressed his thanks and congratulations on the success of the first IEEE SCEMS and announced that the second IEEE SCEMS will be held on the campus of Kyungsung University in Busan, Korea. Jong-Nam Bae warmly welcomed colleagues from all over the world in the promotional video of the IEEE SCEMS 2019 conference prepared by Kyungsung University.
Finally, the closing ceremony came to an end. SUN delivered a speech at the end of the meeting.The IEEE SCEMS 2018 was concluded successfully.
Zhejiang University IEEE IAS Student Branch Chapter held the first IEEE SCEMS, which created a stage for thinking and innovation collision in the field of motor and system. Relevant field peers and outstanding predecessors joined together in the IEEE SCEMS 2018, so that the young power in the field of motor and system can fully blossom the most dazzling light.
Zhejiang University IEEE IAS Student Branch Chapter (ZJU IEEE IAS SBC) was established in May 2017. It is a sub-branch of IEEE IAS and a student association of our school. The supervisor is the Deputy Dean, College of Electrical Engineering, Zhejiang University, Prof. SHEN Jianxin. The purpose of ZJU IEEE IAS SBC is to help our students to better participate in the academic activities of the IEEE IAS Association, to obtain relevant information and knowledge, and to better publish high-quality academic papers in IEEE IAS journals and conferences. Except for the paper review work of the IEEE SCEMS, the rest of the work was completed by the students of the College of Electrical Engineering. Through this activity, the students' social work ability and organizational ability have been greatly enhanced, and the students' horizons have been expanded.
